Craftsmanship meets character

J.P. Smith Builders specializes in exterior restoration, interior renovation and finish carpentry which reflect the home’s character, period and place in a neighborhood.

We repair and restore wood exteriors with attention to the original architecture and the demands of the Northeastern climate. We use locally sourced timber and boards where appropriate, natural wood finishes and traditional joinery alongside modern building techniques.
Our work includes wood siding, trim, exterior details, repairs and replacement of deteriorated elements.
Older homes have already solved many problems through proportion, material and craftsmanship.
We work to understand those decisions before making new ones — preserving character while improving durability, performance and everyday function.
We renovate kitchens, bathrooms, stairs and other interior spaces with an emphasis on materials, proportion and craftsmanship.
Our goal is to make new work feel at home in the existing house — not simply place a new room inside an old one. We make the inside work as well as it looks.
Custom cabinetry, built-ins, stairways, millwork and other fine woodwork made specifically for the home.
We combine careful material selection with precise fabrication and installation, including on-site milling where appropriate.

Services

Our work is focused on restoration, renovation and high-quality woodwork. We do not currently offer roofing, composite decking or vinyl-based exterior work.
